Richard Dawson | Music Supervisor

Favourite Musical: West Side Story

Richard is the Director of Music at Barnard Castle School, where he oversees the music provision for every young person at the school from age 4-18. Prior to this, Richard was Deputy Director of Music and Head of Academic Music at Brighton College (England’s Independent School of the Decade). Before moving into the education sector, Richard read music at the University of Oxford where he was also the Organ Scholar at Keble College, Oxford.

His love of musical theatre stems back to his time at school in the West Midlands, where he would often be found playing in the pit band for a variety of shows! Since then, he has been the Musical Director for a range of productions, including Little Shop of Horrors, Made in Dagenham, Matilda Jr.Oliver! and We Will Rock You. Outside of the sphere of musical theatre, Richard is in demand as a choral conductor, organist and accompanist. He is determined that every child should be able to enjoy making music regularly and have access to a range of musical opportunities, so he is particularly delighted to be working with TOS and TOYS.
